‘The Female Divine’ is Dexys’ fifth album of authentic materials, produced as soon as once more by Pete Schwier, together with acclaimed session musician and producer Toby Chapman. After taking a while out to refocus his vitality, Kevin Rowland got here again to music with a recent perspective and new-found positivity. A private, if not strictly autobiographical, report portraying a person whose views have developed over time. Not simply on girls, however the entire idea of masculinity he had been raised with: an schooling and an un-learning that’s traced throughout the arc of The Female Divine with dizzying impact.
The report’s first half is stuffed with music hall-esque swagger, a lot of it written with authentic Dexys’ trombonist Large Jim Paterson (a non-touring band member). The second aspect of the report is like nothing Dexys have achieved earlier than. A saucy, synth-heavy cabaret, written in collaboration with Sean Learn and Mike Timothy. It’s steamy, fizzing and sultry, at instances doom-laden and heavy and at different instances raunchy and funky. Fairly a heady combine.
With over a billion worldwide streams, three high 10 albums within the UK, two #1 singles, a Brit Award and a multi-platinum promoting album with their sophomore launch ‘Too-Rye-Ay’ (as Dexys Midnight Runners), Dexys are as important and thrilling at present as ever. ‘The Female Divine’ marks a brand new chapter in a guide that simply retains getting higher and higher.
