So telling me that there’s a new Katatonia album on its method is like telling me that I will acquire a brand new buddy this coming January.
Additionally, look, they did a track known as ‘Birds’. After so many covers and logos containing the likenesses of our feathered mates (in numerous states of wellbeing, admittedly), birds shall be lastly getting a totally deserved sonic tribute. Yay to that

Katatonia has formally turn out to be an indie rock band, and I am not in the least mad about it.

Maybe not indie exactly, I discover it within the vein of lighter metallic/gothic bands, with out intricate construction that requires extra consideration. Granted, it does provide a definite Katatonia guitar sound to it. Good automotive musak for the approaching season on the northern hemisphere (too unhealthy the discharge date is previous that season) after the primary pay attention. If the remainder of the album is like that, good, I name that sensitivity rising with their listeners.

After couple of newest releases my expectations have been considerably scaled down. It is rather good to listen to these famiiliar sounds, however it’s getting much less and fewer thrilling with each launch. No surprises right here, simply an previous method with some slight deviations.

Nice factors. That is additionally a bit on the linear/poppy aspect of issues. Oh, and man, these drums are uninteresting AF after the transient little bit of delicate variants following the track’s opening. Nonetheless, at all times involved in listening to new Katatonia.

Agreed. All of it feels just a little flat and predictable. I felt the identical about “Behind the Blood” and virtually all of Metropolis Burials. It is nonetheless Katatonia, however it’s lacking the ambiance and intention of their different releases during the last 20 years.

So long as they launch high quality stuff, I do not care what style they play. All “actual followers” will most likely be appalled after I let you know that previous Katatonia is boring and sloppy. Their revered debut is just horrible, as is Discouraged Ones. Courageous Homicide Day has some good moments, however it’s fairly weak too. The band turned actually attention-grabbing on Viva Vacancy and have remained so till immediately. I am glad to see that the brand new album apparently will proceed that development.

I would somewhat take heed to the The Nice Chilly Distance

Large time Katatonia fan right here. The art work is kinda lame imo. This factor with the birds is getting exhausting.
The track jogs my memory a little bit of Serein bit worse than that.
Its a cool tune, however kinda “empty”. I miss the instances when the songs had extra weight and layers to it. This simplistic method makes the band sound like Placebo and such.
